Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Candace McCall has had a love of nature, wildlife and the outdoors all her life. At the age of seven, her grandfather gave her one of her first bird books and first art book, "The Birds of America" by John James Audubon. At age ten, her mother enrolled her in her first art class which she attended once a week after school. She took art instruction a couple of years in high school, and considered art as a possible major while attending Vanderbilt University.
After a few semesters of art history, knowing that she didn't want to be a curator at a museum, but rather an artist, she double majored in two of her other interests, Mathematics and Computer Science.
Upon graduation at Vanderbilt University, she joined the software company, ONLINE Computing, Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee where she is currently employed as Director of Research and Software Development.
Candace has continued pursuing her love of art in her spare time and within the last several years has been more earnest in her effort. She has participated in wildlife art workshops given by Terry Isaac, Guy Coheleach, Lee Cable, Robert Bateman, Heiner Hertling and Scott Burdick. She has exhibited at the "Out of Alaska", Southeast Invitational Miniature and Things With Wings art shows held at Germanton Gallery, North Carolina. She has additionally shown at the Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibit and the Florida Wildlife and Western Art Exposition.
In 1984, Candace took her first trip to Alaska and immediately fell in love with the uniqueness and beauty of the north and the boreal forest. She travels to Alaska on a regular basis and has a special fondness for the Denali National Park area.
Acrylic is the current medium of the majority of her work, but she also loves working with pencil.
Candace currently resides in Mount Juliet, Tennessee.
