Ron Parvu was born in Akron, Ohio on December 26th, 1942. Growing up in northeastern Ohio, the region exposed him to a rich variance of natural environment, history and wildlife. It’s against this background, with a touch of nostalgia, that his paintings reflect his unique originality. Formally a graphic designer with national and international corporations, his work reveals a strong, inherent sense of design and composition. He likes to focus on strong visual images that convey emotional impact.
He readily admits to being influenced by the work of Andrew Wyeth and Edward Hopper. He says however, "You learn from them, but you don’t try to copy them. Every artist has to seek their own way; develop their own style."
"I paint a lot of personal feelings into a work. Things that are impossible for any viewer to know about. The technical realism is what they see first. A person doesn’t even have to understand art to appreciate that. But, if they stop long enough to really look at the painting, they might get the sense of the emotional side of it. Not my feelings, but their own. What it does to them."
"You have to learn to see the drama in the ordinary. Things that might be considered commonplace, you have to dig deep to find out what’s interesting about it. Its history, its nature. It’s all there if you take the time to discover it. Then bring your imagination and feelings into it and you’ve got something."
His recent "Next to Nature" collection shown here, combines realistic figurative art with the wildlife that surrounds us. He explains, I’ve chosen the female figure because of what it often symbolizes; love, life, hope, the future…and in a way even the past, before the fall from innocence and Grace. By using the female in a symbolic way, I’m able to express how we were once connected to the animals with whom we share the Earth. The paintings represent how we must approach wildlife. The naked form is a picture of all of us, devoid of any harmful feelings. If both humans and wildlife are to survive, we must share the planet with them on their terms… not ours.
His current work features ospreys of America, and will be available in the Autumn of 2000.
